I typically use the WD15 to provide power, keyboard, mouse, smart card reader, a single ultra-widescreen display, and Ethernet over the one USB-C connection, so to be honest, I haven’t checked dual monitor support since 10.13.However, when I tested this in the past (about six months ago, with 10.12.6 and the DisplayLink USB driver), it only supported a single display, (regardless of any combination of VGA, HDMI, or DisplayPort). It definitely did not support MST, and did not support the TB15 or TB16 Thunderbolt docks whatsoever, which have one full size DisplayPort and one mini-DisplayPort.I’ll try to scrounge up a D6000 on Monday, which has two native full sized DisplayPort connections, on a USB-C bus. Unless Apple has finally decided to support industry standards and add MST dual monitor support, it won't work. The only MST support OSX does is high resolution (4K, 5K?) single display.
I'm a little surprised it doesn't work with the Thunderbolt docks though. Our first user that got a USB-C laptop in fact did get that D6000, and it seemed to work fine. Well, on a PC, not a mac. But Mac support should be as good as DisplayLink ever was.Even if video doesn't work, being able to connect keyboard, mouse, etc and charger with one cable is a worthwhile upgrade.
That being said, DisplayLink video docking is the worst experience ever, so no harm.It had particularly bad performance on Mac OS 10.12, then I upgraded to 10.13 and it was magically good enough to watch video on, which really surprised me.I only use DisplayLink on my desk at work because Apple has a ridiculous limitation on the 2015 MBP that prevents it from working with more than three displays, and at work I have four. Adding DisplayLink into the mix is a really handy way to work around that problem.Makes me happy I haven't installed the update yet.
